# Query your business data in plain English with Ask AI

> Ask AI answers questions about your revenue, customers, orders, and inventory in plain English — no reports, no filters, just ask.

Ask AI is a conversational assistant built directly into DetailAhead. It has access to your live business data — customers, orders, finances, inventory, team, and automations — and answers questions in plain English. Instead of hunting through reports or counting rows in a table, you can just ask. Ask AI is available from the sidebar on any plan that includes it, and its summaries appear automatically across your dashboard and key pages.

## Opening the chat

Click **Ask AI** in the left sidebar to open the full chat interface. Type your question in the text box at the bottom of the screen and press **Send** (or hit **Enter**). Ask AI reads back across your real data and replies in a few seconds.

  Ask AI requires an active **Growth** or **Team** plan. If you're on the Solo plan, upgrade from **Settings → Billing** to unlock it.

## What you can ask

Ask AI understands natural language, so you don't need to use specific keywords or commands. Here are some examples of questions it can answer:

**Revenue and finances**

* *"What was my revenue last month?"*
* *"How much did I make from full details this quarter?"*
* *"What are my top three highest-value orders this year?"*

**Customers**

* *"Which customers haven't visited in the last 60 days?"*
* *"How many new customers did I add this month?"*
* *"Find all customers tagged as VIP."*

**Orders and scheduling**

* *"How many orders did I complete this week?"*
* *"What jobs are still open and overdue?"*
* *"Book an order for \[customer name] on Friday."*

**Services and inventory**

* *"What's my most popular service this year?"*
* *"Which inventory items are running low?"*
* *"What's my current stock level for \[product]?"*

**Team**

* *"Which team member has the most completed jobs this month?"*
* *"What's the workload looking like across the team right now?"*

  Use Ask AI to spot lapsed customers in seconds. Ask *"Who hasn't booked in 60 days?"* and you'll get a named list immediately — no need to manually filter through your full customer list or set up a report.

## Taking actions through Ask AI

Ask AI can do more than look things up. You can ask it to create or update records on your behalf — for example, add a new customer, book an order, or restock an inventory item. Before making any change to your data, it always shows you a confirmation card describing exactly what it is about to do. Click **Confirm** to proceed or **Cancel** to stop.

This means you can describe what you want in plain English and Ask AI handles the data entry — while you stay in control of every write.

## Voice input

On supported browsers, a **microphone button** appears in the chat input row. Click it to start dictating your question instead of typing. The button pulses while recording. Click it again — or press **Enter** — to stop recording and send your message.

  Voice input uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. On Chrome and Edge, audio is processed by the browser's speech service. Dictation is not available in Firefox or browsers where microphone access has been blocked.

## AI summaries on other pages

You don't need to open the Ask AI chat to benefit from the AI. Throughout DetailAhead you'll see plain-English summary cards at the top of the dashboard, finances, and other sections. These are generated by the same AI and give you a quick narrative read of what the numbers mean — for example, *"Revenue is up 12% on last month, driven by a strong week of full-detail jobs."*

These summaries update automatically as your data changes.

## Suggestion chips

When you first open the Ask AI chat, a row of suggestion chips appears above the input box. Click any chip to send that question immediately. These cover common questions like checking what needs attention today, looking up low-stock items, or booking your next free slot.

## Permissions and financial data

Ask AI respects your team's role permissions. If a team member's role does not include **View finances**, all pricing, revenue, and cost figures are automatically hidden from Ask AI responses for that user — even if they ask directly. The business Owner controls this setting under **Team → Manage team**.
