# Managing your DetailAhead subscription and billing

> Upgrade, downgrade, update your payment method, view and download invoices, and cancel your DetailAhead subscription from Settings.

All billing for DetailAhead is managed from the **Settings → Billing** panel. From here you can see your current plan, upgrade or downgrade, and open the Stripe Billing Portal to handle payment methods, view invoices, and cancel. Billing is processed securely by Stripe — DetailAhead never stores your card details.

## Where to find your billing information

Open **Settings** from the sidebar, then click **Billing & subscription** in the left-hand settings navigation. You'll see:

* Your **active plan** (Solo, Growth, or Team)
* Your **billing cycle** (monthly)
* Your **next invoice date**
* Buttons to upgrade, downgrade, or manage billing

<Note>
  Only the account **Owner** can access billing settings or change the subscription. Team members with a Manager or Staff role do not have access to this panel, and this cannot be changed.
</Note>

## Upgrading your plan

  <Step title="Open Settings → Billing">
    Click **Settings** in the sidebar, then select **Billing & subscription**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose your new plan">
    Under the plan list, click **Upgrade** on the plan you want to move to.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete checkout on Stripe">
    You'll be redirected to a secure Stripe Checkout page. Enter your card details and confirm the subscription.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Return to DetailAhead">
    After a successful payment, Stripe redirects you back to DetailAhead. Your new plan activates immediately — upgraded features are available straight away.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Downgrading your plan

The process for downgrading is the same as upgrading — click the lower-tier plan from **Settings → Billing** and confirm through Stripe. The downgrade takes effect at the **end of your current billing period**, so you keep your existing features until then.

<Warning>
  If your current usage exceeds the limits of the plan you're downgrading to — for example, you have more than 150 customers and you're moving from Growth to Solo — you won't lose existing records, but you'll be restricted from adding new ones until your usage is back within the new plan's limits.
</Warning>

## Updating your payment method or downloading invoices

Click **Manage billing** in the Billing panel. This opens the **Stripe Billing Portal**, where you can:

* Update or replace your saved card
* View and download all past invoices
* See your subscription status and upcoming charges
* Cancel your subscription

The portal opens in the same tab and returns you to DetailAhead when you're done.

## Cancelling your subscription

Cancel from the **Stripe Billing Portal** (click **Manage billing** in Settings → Billing). After cancelling, your account stays fully active until the end of the current billing period — you won't be billed again after that, and you keep access to all your data and features until the period expires.

After the period ends, dashboard access becomes read-limited. Your data is retained so you can reactivate if you decide to come back.

## Free trial and what happens when it ends

All new accounts start with a free trial — no card required. When the trial period ends, a prompt appears asking you to choose a plan and enter payment details. Until you subscribe, your ability to add new records and access some features is limited. Your existing data is always preserved.

## Stripe and your card security

<Note>
  DetailAhead uses Stripe for all payment processing. Your card number is entered directly on Stripe's secure checkout page and is never transmitted to or stored by DetailAhead.
</Note>

<Tip>
  If you see a charge you don't recognise, open the Stripe portal from **Settings → Billing → Manage billing** to view a full itemised invoice history. If something still looks wrong after reviewing your invoices, contact support from **Settings → Help**.
